Bodily fluids can reveal what is occurring inside the body and indicate the function of almost every organ. At Primary Care Joliet, we pride ourselves on providing all-encompassing primary care for patients with many diagnostic tools available at our facilities. We perform blood and urine testing at our medical clinics in Wilmington and Joliet, IL.

When Do You Need a Blood Test?

There are many circumstances where your medical provider may recommend a blood test. Some blood tests are performed as a preventive measure during annual exams, and not due to any particular symptoms. Lab tests on blood measure for specific elements within the blood – there are often several different tests that are performed at the same time to monitor health. These tests can indicate how the liver, kidneys, heart and other organs are performing and if more exploration is needed. Some common blood tests may include:

  • Cholesterol levels
  • Blood clotting function
  • Nutrient levels
  • White and red blood cell counts
  • Blood sugar levels and A1C

Blood tests can also be used for diagnosing certain diseases or illnesses. Certain infections like HIV can only be identified with a blood test. Immunology testing may be recommended if you have symptoms of certain diseases.

Blood testing may require fasting to get the needed results. If your blood test requires a fast, you will need to abstain from food or beverages for several hours before your blood is drawn.

When Do You Need a Urinalysis?

Urine testing is used to look at the content and consistency of your urine. This can indicate kidney and urinary tract health and function. Urine tests are also used in diagnosis and monitoring of diabetes and many other diseases. A common reason for urine testing is if pregnancy is expected.

When you need urine or blood tests for diagnosis of a health condition or as part of your preventive health care, you can come to us at Primary Care Joliet.
